Episode 014: "Should we go where no man has gone before?"

"What is human? What boundaries separate humanity from higher lifeforms? And when we cross that line, what do we become?"

These are just some of the questions asked in science fiction. Roleplaying games give us the opportunity to both ask and answer these questions in unique ways, and as a result offer an experience that is both entertaining and engaging. A sober opening? Perhaps. Scifi often deals with big and complex issues; grand ideas which often have humble, human cores. In this episode, we wax philosophical about scifi - we talk about what we think it is, and how we use it as storytellers and designers. We also talk about our most beloved examples of the genre. Episode 011: "What is a Metaplot?"

Whew! Eleven episodes in and we are still going strong. We have talked about story, gaming, and dragons. We've discussed design ideas and table philosophy. Now we get to the real fun stuff.  

By this point some of you have taken a stab at running a game but keep encountering the same problem. How much of your own story do you tell verses the story that is being told in the books of the game you are running. Your troubles have a name and it is "Metaplot", and it's not the easiest thing to break apart and use. Too much and you threaten to tie your game to the railroad tracks. Too little and then why are you even playing this particular game at all? Hard questions with complicated answers. Episode 010: "Who is Michael A. Goodwin?"

Ten. That is the number of episodes we have done and I can't believe we have made it this far. There have been technical, logistical, and creative complications that have stalled us and made this podcasting experiment one hell of a ride. No matter the issue though, we here at Polyhedron would not have been able to get to this point without our fans giving us overwhelming support. So we thank you for the bottoms of our cold, dark hearts.

To mark the special occasion that is our tenth episode and really give our audience a treat, we were able to get a rather well known gaming author into the studio. He has written for Mummy (both Resurrection and Curse),  Vampire: Dark Ages, Mage: The Awakening, Dark Ages: Devil's Due, but you may know him best for his long running work for Exalted: First and Second Edition. Known to many on the White Wolf and Onyx Path forum as Nephilpal, his true name (spoken with caution, lest he be summoned) is Michael A. Goodwin. Settle in for a wild, strange ride as we discuss his career, his thoughts on game design and his personal philosophy
